PMS or PMDD?
Most people will have heard of PMS…its those horrible few weeks or days leading up to a woman’s period that causes unpleasant emotional and physical changes.
Whether you are a man or a woman, most people will be familiar with the effects of PMS. If you are a woman, you will know what it feels like first hand to experience unpleasant mood swings, and physical changes such as stomach cramps, back ache and breast tenderness. If you are a man…you may have experienced the wrath of your girlfriend, wife, sister, friend, work mate etc in the weeks or days leading up to ‘the time of the month’

Which is it?
But how do you know if what you have is the regular common PMS that thousands of women have…or if it is something much more severe and serious that only a handful of women struggle with? Pre - menstrual Dysmorphic Disorder (PMDD) is a mood disorder that can have a detrimental and immensely destructive effect on a sufferer’s life. It is a much more severe form of the commonly known PMS and unfortunately is ‘less well known.’ The lack of awareness surrounding this condition can make the disorder more difficult for the sufferer to deal with - as they often do not realise what is really wrong with them.
My Story
Personally for many years, I struggled with this condition without realising it ever existed! I thought I just had ‘very bad PMS’ but became increasingly frustrated as it continued to steadily get worse and worse as time went by. I had no idea there was a condition called PMDD and when I finally discovered this fact – everything finally fell into place and started to make sense. I wasn’t going crazy… I want a freak… I had an illness and this was a break through for me, as now I finally knew what I had – I could finally get help for it!
I hope this website can help raise awareness of this little known condition and prevent other people from having to suffer in alone and silence for as many needless years as I did. Help is out there and the more that people know about PMDD – the more we can help change lives for the better
